OBITUARY

Dr. Michael D. Warren, Professor of Anthropology at Iowa State University died in Nigeria at the end of December 1997. Mike and his wife Mary had been to Ghana prior to their travel to Nigeria. Dr. Norma H. Wolff, a colleague and friend of Dr. Warren, reported the death as resulting from blood clot complications.

Dr. Warren, a member of the Ghana Studies Council, was known for his work on Akan religion and medical traditions. Since his 1974 Inidiana dissertation on "Disease, Medicine, and Religion among the Takyiman-Bono of Ghana," Dr. Warren dediciated his academic life to the further investigation of and publications on the subject. Nothwithstanding his academic contributions, it was his exceptional care for his students, friends (in African and elsewhere) that his colleagues remembered in memorial of him. Funeral services have been held in honor of Michael D. Warren in both Nigeria, and at Ames (Iowa). It is my understanding that funeral observations for Dr. Warren in Takyiman takes place on 30 May 1998.
